Data revealed from HMRC today showed that on a non-seasonally adjusted basis, residential property transactions in March were 0.4% higher than this time last year.

Numbers of UK property transactions tend to give a better overall picture of the health of the property market than simply looking at house prices.  The figures released today seem to show a more resilient picture than we might have expected, and a more optimistic outlook for the rest of the year, in spite of the continuing Brexit uncertainty.

Here in beautiful Wantage, Oxfordshire we've certainly had a busy March as many motivated sellers have been more accepting of the current stage of the market, and more realistic with their pricing.  Political and economic uncertainty notwithstanding, people certainly seem to be getting on with their lives and moving house, helped by a strong economy, low unemployment and record low interest rates on mortgages.  The market continues to hold steady throughout the Brexit storm and we expect the number of homes bought and sold by the end of this year will be consistent with the previous 5 years.

There is certainly some pent-up demand and there may well be a surge in new properties for sale once a clearer picture of Brexit emerges.  If you're thinking of putting your home on the market, now is as good a time as any to take the plunge! 

Whatever the time of year or what is going on with politics, there are always buyers looking.  Having your home for sale now, whilst there are lower stock levels and therefore less competition could be a shrewd move in getting you towards achieving your asking price.
